Chopped Strand Mat | Marine-Grade Boat Hull Lamination And Industrial FRP Reinforcement
Chopped Strand Mat (CSM) is a non-woven fiberglass reinforcement material engineered for exceptional durability and versatility. Composed of randomly oriented E-glass or C-glass fibers bonded with polyester or emulsion binders, it delivers uniform strength, rapid wet-out, and excellent moldability. Ideal for hand lay-up and open-mold applications, CSM ensures consistent fiber distribution for high-performance composites in marine, automotive, and construction industries.
 
Production Process
Step Description
Fiber Cutoff Continuous glass rovings are cut into 1.5-3 inch lengths for uniform distribution.
Binder Application Fibers are bonded using polyester powder or emulsion binders for structural integrity.
Random Distribution Cutoff fibers are spread evenly on a moving belt to form a non-woven mat.
Curing Heat treatment activates binder curing, ensuring dimensional stability.
Quality Control Parameters like weight (100-900 g/m²), thickness (0.045-0.12 inches), and adhesion are tested.
 
Usage Precautions
  • Storage: Keep in dry, cool environments (15-35°C) away from humidity and direct sunlight.
  • Temperature Limits: Operate within -40°C to 120°C; avoid prolonged exposure to extreme heat.
  • Chemical Resistance: Compatible with polyester, vinyl ester, and epoxy resins. Avoid contact with strong acids or solvents.
  • Handling: Wear gloves to prevent fiber irritation; use sharp cutting tools to minimize fraying.
