Product Introduction & Features

Carbon Fiber Surface Mat is a non-woven carbon fiber-reinforced material engineered for enhancing surface quality and functional performance in composite applications. Composed of ultra-short carbon fibers (3-15 mm) uniformly distributed within a polymer matrix, it delivers exceptional mechanical strength, corrosion resistance, and electromagnetic shielding.

Key Features
  • Lightweight & High Strength: Density as low as 1.2 g/cm³ with tensile strength exceeding 3,000 MPa.
  • Electrical Conductivity: Surface resistivity <10 Ω, suitable for EMI shielding and static dissipation.
  • Thermal Stability: Operates effectively from -50°C to 200°C.
  • Chemical Resistance: Resists acids, alkalis, and solvents (compatible with epoxy, polyester resins).
  • Surface Versatility: Smooth or textured finishes for aesthetic or functional requirements.

Manufacturing Process
Step Description
Fiber Production PAN-based precursor fibers are stabilized and carbonized at 1,000-3,000°C.
Short Fiber Cutting Carbon fibers are cut into 3-15 mm lengths for uniform distribution.
Wetting & Blending Fibers are dispersed in a resin bath (epoxy/phenolic) with sizing agents.
Mat Formation Wet fibers are layered and pressed into non-woven mats via vacuum forming.
Curing Heat/pressure curing ensures resin cross-linking and fiber-resin bonding.
Quality Control Metrics: Fiber content (30-50%), surface resistivity, tensile strength.

Usage Precautions
  • Storage: Keep dry in cool, ventilated areas (15-25°C) to prevent moisture absorption.
  • Handling: Wear PPE (gloves, goggles) to avoid fiber irritation; use sharp tools for cutting.
  • Chemical Exposure: Avoid contact with strong oxidizers or aromatic hydrocarbons.
  • Temperature Limits: Do not exceed 200°C unless specified for high-temperature grades.
  • Adhesion Optimization: Surface primers may be required for optimal resin bonding.
